Sentimental brides often like to have their ceremonies at, or close to, the place they met their husband-to-be. This couple did just that, returning to Auburn, Alabama, where they’d met and made a “full circle” approach to starting a new life together, in these photos by Stephen DeVries. This bride wears a gown that’s simplicity itself, a strapless number with jewel trim and a fetching ruffle. Her shoes are taupe flats with a demure bow, her bouquet a burst of white roses. Her maids glide in long gowns of smoky gray, the mothers are in blue, and her groom looks debonair in white tie; a flower girl is adorable in a white sleeveless dress. Two ministers officiate at the vows, and then it’s time to climb in the waiting limousine for the trip to the reception.
Sweets abound: a gorgeous layered white bride’s cake as well as giant decorated cookies with the happy couple’s names on, frosted in white, blue, and pink, and decorated with white bells. After cake is served and silver favor boxes handed out, the fun begins: the bride gets a guest spot crooning with the band, while the groom retires with the gentlemen for a “dignified” cigar…and they both participate in the Limbo contest. As day fades gradually into night, the bouquet is tossed, the bride dons a demure fur wrap, and the happy couple skips outdoors, between the raindrops and beneath a shower of sparklers, to nestle in their getaway car and begin the first day of their new life.
