Does anybody remember the wedding cake once the reception’s over? That depends; if the cakes are as special as these, our favorites from 2013 from Stylish Eve wedding articles, the guests might still be smiling! Swans look just fine perched atop a cake with cascading blue flowers…and so does a pair of white seahorses! How about a white wedding cake wrapped in white satin ribbon? It’s a gift of great taste for couples and guests alike, especially topped with a lavish satin bow. An artistic couple has a tower of layers frosted in vibrant hues of pink, fuchsia, and blue, while another one is a whisper of palest demure pink. Pure white, or off-white frosting with matching frosting “flowers” is striking — but the tower of layers that look like stacked straw hats, complete with deep blue banding and yellow flower trim, is unforgettable.
Cake toppers have also come into their own: pairs of “lovebirds,” dancing couples modeled after the appearance of an actual bride and groom (we especially love the military couple!), and a handful of monograms can trim the cake. Of course, the groom’s cakes aren’t to be forgotten here, either: from a golf-ball on a “tee” to a red Alabama “A” to fleur-de-lis and chocolate wafers, the variety is endless. One cake is topped with an artichoke, another with fresh hydrangeas…and let’s not forget the chevron trim along the sides of one cake, in perfect color match with the wedding attire. From carnations to cascades of truffles, from frosted cookies to towers of cupcakes, you’ll see just about everything here, in our casual wrap-up of favorite wedding cakes this year. Deee-licious!
