How about a classic Southern wedding — with an extra-classy twist for the reception? That’s what this happy Birmingham couple celebrated, shown here in images from Stephen DeVries Wedding Photography. The bride is pampered early on, with her makeup just so, and her gown airing in the warm June weather. Her shoes are magical — jeweled on the toes, shining inside. She poses with her bouquet of white and pink roses as her maids are prettied up in swathes of aqua satin and her flower girls are bedecked in ruffles. The groom, in traditional black tie, awaits at the church for his bride’s great “reveal” — then hands her back to her father to get ready for that walk down the aisle. After a few photos strolling on the sweeping lawn, a quick prayer, and a stately walk, the bride and groom are united at the altar.
Then, it’s party time, at a venue known just as “The Club,” a sophisticated room all aglitter — and high above the city, with panoramic views out its long windows. The cake is magnificent, all five layers of cream and pink roses, served with special lemon champagne; guests’ favors are ceramic doves, wrapped in gold. Music and dancing gets everyone up on the floor: first, the traditional dances of bride and groom, bride and her father, groom and his mother — and then everyone joins in, even the flower girls, although they’re doing more watching, comfortably curled up on the floor, at times! Even in the midst of the revelry, the newlyweds slip away for a quiet moment, gazing at the city lights…before they’re bundled affectionately into a classic car and borne away to their new life together.
