Classic from Start to Finish: a Timeless Wedding by Stephen DeVries
Timeless: isn’t that what every couple wants to have as their personal style? This Birmingham, Alabama, couple set up a wedding day with true “timelessness” from beginning to end, in these images by Stephen DeVries. The bride’s bouquet is old roses, her dress a demure slip of satin and lace. Once the veil is set on her shining dark hair, the look on her mother’s face is worth capturing! The church is a vintage building, and the bride looks radiant with sun streaming through stained glass windows, silhouetting her against the polished woodwork. The maids join her for a group shot, clad in smoky dark blue/gray; Mom joins her daughter in turquoise satin. Meanwhile, the groom gathers his men and gives them the order of business for the day; his mother makes sure that boutonniere is on straight.
As for the groom, he’s much more interested in checking out the limo that awaits him and his bride — a classic Rolls-Royce. After a last moment with Dad, the bride comes up the aisle to join her groom; they say their vows as sunlight streams in the nave. After a few more snaps outside, it’s time for toasts and cake: a towering bride’s cake bedecked with pink roses, and a groom’s chocolate cake with a similar “cascade” trim of truffles. As the dancing begins, the couple trips the light fantastic with lots of help: the bride’s mother cuts a rug with her new son, and the grandmothers are all smiles. At last, as night falls over the city, the guests shower the couple with rose petals…and they’re on their way to a bright, timeless future together.
