  • Understanding Dry Skin

Dry skin is a very common condition. Dry skin is one of the most common skin abnormalities. Although certain individuals are more susceptible to dry skin, the condition can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or skin type.

Let’s start with some skin basics. Normal, healthy skin is coated in a thin layer of natural lipids, or fatty substances. They keep in moisture, leaving the skin soft and supple (Collagen and elastic are responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin. They can also undergo changes that lead to drier and sagging skin.

  • Dry skin causes

1 – Normal changes

Some people inherit a tendency for dry skin. The moisture level of the skin is partly determined by genetics. Under identical conditions, different people will have normal, oily, or dry skin.

2 -Aging skin

Dry skin is a common aspect of the aging process and is seen in most people over the age of 70 years.

As skin ages, the physiological changes leading to dryness result in itching and flaking, especially when the weather is cold and dry.

If you’re a women past menopause you may have noticed that your skin is much drier than before. This is a nature side effect of both the aging process and menopause. Both are potential causes of extremely dry skin since estrogen levels drop during menopause. Estrogen helps to maintain the production of natural skin oils.

  • General causes of dry skin

Lack of essential lipids, omega-3 fatty acids, zinc and vitamin A in the diet can affect the integrity of the skin.

The cold, dry air of winter is one of the most common causes of dry skin the cold, dry air of northern winters, Using Central air and heating wood, burning stoves, space heaters and fireplaces all draw moisture out of your skin. The hot, dry air of desert climates causes dry skin too.

Severe diarrhea, vomiting, high fever and sweating can also cause dry skin.
Our modern standards of cleanliness play a key role in the development of dry skin. Many soaps, detergents, and alcohol dry the skin. Using hot water during bathing dries the skin. Generally hotter the water, more are the chances of dry skin.

  • Medical causes of dry skin

Dry skin can be an important clue to the presence of underlying medical conditions:

*Psoriasis
*liver or kidney disease
*Reduction in blood circulation.
*If thyroid glands does not work properly.
*Diabetes
*Problem of heart.
*Problem of pneumonia

  • Dry skin type

• Cracked skin
• Cracked mouth corner
• Fibrosis of skin
• Skin Turgot, decreased
• Dry scaly skin
• Flaky skin

  • Dry skin symptoms

1 – Skin irritation

2 – Dry itching skin

  • Dry skin care

*No steam
*Avoid dry air
*Don’t sprinkle too hot or cold water on face.
*Drink lots of milk.
*Eat fresh fruits, salad & green vegetables.
*Before bathing with hot water apply oily cream or oil on body properly.
*Stop the use of soap.
*Apply the water melon juice on your face properly once a week. Keep it on your face for 15-20 minutes. Wash your face with cold water.
* Astringent lotion damages the dry skin.
*Daily exercise increases the blood circulation of your body. It is beneficial for the skin.
*If you’re over the age of 50 or work outside, moisturizing cream is used rather than lotion to replenish your skin’s moisture levels and reduce the itch.

    I’m suffering a little from dry skin in my hand in winter
    I guess hot water cause that
    so i use moisturizing creams for soft smooth hands
