Family Ties, Vintage Details: Auburn Wedding by Stephen DeVries
When one preacher’s kid and another’s grandkid get together, a wedding becomes a true family affair, as it did for this couple in Auburn, Alabama, in their May wedding captured by Stephen DeVries. From beginning to end, this celebration has “vintage” written all over it as well, from the bride’s strapless flowing gown and little blue shoes to the classic (and classy) car that’s parked and ready to transport the couple. Checking the last-minute tailoring instructions on the dress, the bride slips into her finery, then ambles onto a woodland path for some pictures as radiant as the sunshine around her. The groom, meanwhile, is making his way to a covered bridge for the “reveal,” and both he and his bride carry special wedding-day presents for each other.
The bridesmaids are splendid in deep blue, the men natty in black bow ties, as they proceed to the very church where the bride’s sister was married three years previous (another family tradition!). After a touching ceremony in which her father and his grandfather “team up” to pronounce the vows, the party adjourns to a lavish tent and a wedding cake monogrammed and edged in blue. A vintage bride and groom ornament decorates one table, and the groom cuts a neat figure on the dance floor with a classic “dip” maneuver with his new wife. Dancing is all-out fun and casual, some guests in bare feet, as night falls over the brightly lighted tent; then, under the glow of sparklers, the newlyweds climb into the classic car and ride away into their new life together.
