This bride wanted the world to know how happy she was to be marrying her man — so much so that she had lettered “I Do” on the soles of her red high heels! This is just one of many happy notes in this cheerful, buoyant July wedding in Alabama, as photographed by Stephen DeVries. As an elegant white gown and hair ornaments await, the bride patiently gets her “do” just so, sitting in a bright room in her family home. When her curls are ready, she steps into her lace dress, with its delicate bolero-length jacket, and poses for radiant pictures both indoors and outdoors. Everything is “in the pink” today: she carries a bouquet of variegated roses in shades of pink and peach, and her maids are in flowing pink satin. It’s a quick walk to the church, with a faithful helper holding her veil.
Meanwhile, her groom is dapper in elegant black suiting and white tie and waistcoat; his boutonniere is a simple pair of tiny sweetheart roses in pink and peach. The reception awaits, with white beribboned boxes of guest favors, two cakes — one of pristine white, one with pale chocolate frosting “ribbons” and roses from stem to stern — and ice cream cones. As a harpist plays, the happy couple is introduced to the guests, listens to a series of toasts from family, wedding party, and even members of the band, and cuts both cakes — with an obligatory pause to smear frosting on the tips of each other’s noses. With a flourish, the reception bids them good wishes, and an unforgettable day of memories begins their new life together.
