The atmosphere is warm and homey, the approach comfortable and casual — the bride’s shoes, after all, are flip-flops — in this summer Atlanta wedding as pictured by Stephen DeVries. Early in the day, the bride and her maids set the tone: there’s lots of laughter and fun as they get prettied up for the ceremony, help the bride with her “do” and her veil, and pose in a splendid garden beneath weeping willows. The maids are in mint-green, a cool accent for this summer day; the bride’s exquisite parasol helps shield her from too much sun. Bouquets blush becomingly with subtle color: a touch of pearl pink in the bride’s white roses complements the pale pink roses in her maids’ bouquets. The groom is cool, calm, and confident in black tie and sprightly boutonniere, as he and his men pose beneath those same garden trees.
After the sacred words are said, the newlyweds “mug it up” a bit on the church steps; an outdoor reception awaits beneath a spacious tent and open to the balmy air. Guests get treats in decorated paper cones, then line up for a yummy roast-beef-and-all-the-trimmings buffet. As dusk falls over the proceedings, the bride and groom cut a multi-layered white-and-rose frosted cake; then it’s time for music and dancing, with “break” moves from some ambitious guests and a few lyrics belted out by the groom and his men. Finally — against a backdrop of gorgeous Atlanta city lights — the evening winds down, and the happy pair are seen into a sleek white car under an “arch” of sparklers. It’s been a wonderful summer wedding, and a terrific way to launch a bright future.
