The Gucci Spring 2014 RTW Collection Gives the Runway a Workout at Milan Fashion Week
Athletic wear experimentation is becoming a common sight on the runway. However, this strategy has not yet made a “home run” appearance, given the disastrous DKNY Resort 2014 Collection showing earlier this year. Despite the potential for fashion failure, Frida Giannini bravely went forward with her ideas and gave the Gucci Spring 2014 RTW Collection a sporty vibe. Frida, who was pregnant last summer, spent this summer working out with a goal of getting her abs back. It is no wonder that she became fascinated with sportswear during this time. Before you rush out to the store with this in mind to go on a run in “Gucci gear”, the collection includes see through mesh t-shirts, track pants, basketball shorts, and sheer bras.
This is hardly the ensemble you would want to be seen wearing at the gym, but definitely the ensemble that will make you want to start going to the gym. Showing signs of a Japanese aesthetic influence, the collection boasts beautiful, oversized, Kimono-like tops with leather trim. The exotic keyhole gowns of the collection are beautiful, not to be outdone by the dramatically high thigh cuts in the gowns as well. Who said that a jogging suit could not be sexy? Certainly not Gucci, the silk jogging suits could not be more perfectly couture and chic to wear. Frida Giannini deserves a round of applause, perhaps even a standing ovation for her creative work in the Gucci Spring 2014 RTW Collection – it’s is nothing short of brilliant, daring, and enticing.
