This modern townhouse design comes to us via Malaysian firm Blu Water Studio, located in Kuala Lumpur. Contemporary, yes — but with some quirky, innovative details. Take a look at the living room/sitting room, one wall a stone finish, another wood with oversize botanical photographic art, and you know you’re not in an ordinary run-of-the-mill modern interior. An oval gray ottoman/table graces a rug reminiscent of zebra print; a distinctively Asian feel takes over with floral accents. On a polished travertine floor, the open plan merges living and dining spaces in one long, naturally-lighted area, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. Over the dining table, note the golden glow from “bottle glass” fixtures; more golden light tucks under kitchen cabinets, fronting a handy breakfast bar/island counter.
Recessed spots give you a focal point at the foot of oak stairs, leading to several bedrooms that each has its own identity and unique touch. One has a sculpted white floral rug complementing black-and-white plaids and stripes on bedding accessories. One has an unmistakably feminine touch: floral art on the wall, sweet aqua-colored bedding, a discreet ruffle on a white pillow sham — and a neat little desk built-in beneath the window, with a matching aqua-finished chair and bright green and yellow ornaments. Two more bedrooms are studies in black and white, both with photographic art above the beds; one has sedate gray walls, one off-white — and a third features a white wall with a flock of stylized black geese in flight. Clearly, this is a place of luxurious comfort that also welcomes natural light and indoor/outdoor living possibilities. Modern plus cozy: that’s the Vale by Blu Water.
