Instant Luxury: Radisson Blu Hotel in Dakar, Senegal

Step across the sea-blue stripes in the carpet of the lobby of the Radisson Blu Hotel and you’ve stepped into luxury, as designed by Antoni Associates. As the designers put it, “… situated on the exotic water’s edge of Dakar, Senegal, [it] offers 180 contemporary and stylish guest rooms and suites, two sophisticated restaurants, two bars, and Olympic-size pool, as well as elegant multi-use conferencing facilities.” In other words, the Radisson has all the comforts of home…and then some. Amble through the sophisticated lobby; take in the spacious seating area, and one of the restaurants — all sleek white and chrome behind vertical wood screening. Relax and have a beverage in a backlit bar, with its tropical-orange theme by day and cool moonlight blue by night…then proceed up the winding staircase to your suite.

On the way, you’ll pass native artistic accents, such as the canoe suspended in the atrium between floors; as you open the door to your suite, a soothing pastel-sand ambience greets you. Over the bed is art depicting the plains; next to the bed are contemporary rectangular-shaded lamps perfect for reading. Recessed lighting points the way to your spacious bath, with its twin white porcelain sinks against elegant brown-and-black tile. Pause just long enough to change, then head down to the shimmering outdoor pool, surrounded by uplit palm trees, tables for alfresco cocktails, and abundant lounge chairs, for a moonlight swim to finish your day. Then retire, to relax, refresh, and recharge — in the soothing ambience of the Radisson Blu.
