Modern Minimalist Apartment Redo in Romania by Studio 1408
Located in the heart of Bucharest, this contemporary apartment is a design of Romania’s Studio 1408. Originally a collection of living room area, open kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an office, it’s been transformed: the open living-kitchen area remains, now with a clever mirrored storage space serving as a divider, while one expansive bedroom has terrace access, a large walk-in closet, en-suite bathroom, and separate laundry. The design is unmistakably minimalist, brightened by curry-yellow sofas and purple accessories in contrast with the wood-grain, white, and gray palette. Against the rich wood flooring, shelving and tables gleam white, picking up the clarity of the pure white ceilings and walls; natural light pours through numerous windows, while recessed lighting, cleverly placed, provides illumination without glare at night.
You’ve got to love the sheer volume of the closet: large enough for an entire year’s wardrobe, it provides a place for everything — hanger racks for shirts and slacks, shelves for shoes and sweaters, and small drawers for underwear, socks, and accessories. A central wall in the bathroom separates the space into three different areas; a unique “vanity” of white rectangular sink and matching storage beneath it is set off beautifully by rich red-brown marble. Clear doors demarcate other areas, while light pours in from a narrow skylight in the shower. Finally, in the master bedroom, concrete planks from the wall mimic the texture of the wood in which they were cast; a neutral gray bed frame is a fitting foil for purple blanket and pillows. All in all, “V” is an apartment that fulfills its goals: minimal fuss, maximum function…wrapped in a modern, chic package.
