This 3-bedroom penthouse is located in the St. Pancras Chambers, covering the top three floors of the London landmark in an innovative design by Thomas Griem at TG Studio of London. The property has certain connections with English Heritage standards, and so the floor plan had to be generally maintained; that being said, part of the renovation included removing all staircases, balustrades, and partitions where possible. The client put in some “sweat equity” as well, helping to remove bathrooms, floor finishes, and built-in wardrobes — as well as gutting the kitchen! Given complete freedom in the penthouse, TG Studio selected a meridiani bed in blue velvet, paired with vivid lacquered bedside tables; the master bedroom, looking out on the living area, can be curtained for privacy.
A new, larger master ensuite bath now features Portuguese travertine stone, as well an extra-large walk-in shower…and yes, that is a TV in the wall! The entertaining areas of the flat are now on the fourth and fifth floors of the building, with a new staircase featuring oak veneer, plain glass, and off-white wooden stringers. The open floor plan brings together kitchen, dining, and TV areas in a seamless space; an extra two bedrooms can be reached from there, each with its own ensuite bathroom in a Gothic tower — both a unique structural entity and one that guarantees great views! With a little help from the client himself, TG Studio produced a fresh “take” on an old building — and a space that works phenomenally well for its owner.
