A Pool with a Bar and Bath: Oakmond Estate by Caviness Landscape Design
“This pool and landscape design was created to give the client as much of a natural mountain environment as possible,” say the designers at Caviness Landscape Design. “They wanted to feel as if they were in an actual cave that was carved out inside a mountain, with some modern additions.” Modern additions, indeed: a man-made grotto in this magnificent setting contains not one but two dry entrances, a bathroom, a TV, and a complete swim-up bar with sink, refrigerator, ice maker, and dishwasher! As if that’s not luxury enough, the other side provides access to an outdoor shower, hidden by a wall that blends in with the cave. The total effect? A mountain setting, just as the client requested ¬— with the added fun of guests being able to sit on stone “stools” at an in-water bar.
Outdoors, high stone walls over which the water cascades, and mature trees, among them evergreens, provide an ambience that looks like a full-blown waterfall that just happened to spring up in the back yard. A gently rounded spa, flanked in the same flagstone that provides the paths and entries to the pool, is vivid blue in the special colored lights. Meanwhile, “indoors” under the waterfalls and within the dry grotto, green from an evening light show peeks through openings between the rocks while a freshly made batch of popcorn sits ready for snacking in front of the TV. The pool, spa, and waterfalls are made for easy fun and entertaining — and the client is thrilled. As he put it, “I had a great experience…I would recommend them (Caviness) to anyone.”
