If you’ve got some artistic talent, a wedding is a terrific occasion in which to use it — and the bride in these photos by Stephen DeVries brings her talents as a graphic designer to the fore with hand-designed cards, signs, and favors for her special day. It’s a fun June morning in Columbia, South Carolina, as the maids gather to have hair, makeup, and general primping done with the bride at her home. They look cool, calm, and comfy in special “robes” for the occasion: short monogrammed pajama tops! Elegant in her lace-topped gown and high-heel bow-trimmed slippers, the bride makes her way to the historic church grounds; a flower girl is fetching with a garland of blooms in her hair, and she and the ring bearer take their jobs seriously!
After the ceremony, the party poses under spreading trees on the church grounds — maids in short sea-blue satin, groom and his men in black tuxes with special blue-trimmed lapels. The bride and groom slip away for a private refreshment; then they greet their guests in a hall replete with candlelight, hanging white lanterns, and old family photographs. Friends write their good wishes on an easel, sample cake and champagne — and get a treat when the groomsmen burst into a special serenade for the bride. With a start like that, it’s no surprise the reception is a feast of song and dance, with young and old alike enjoying tripping the light fantastic. As evening falls, the bride tosses her bouquet, the groom the garter, and guests shower them with flower petals as they ride away into their new life together.
