It’s summer in Birmingham, Alabama, but the bride surrounds herself with spring green: she carries it in her bouquet, and her mother poses in that delicate pastel shade, in these Southern wedding images from Stephen DeVries. First, it’s time for makeup and hairstyles to be just-so; the bride and her maids have a refreshing beverage as they’re prettied up. Lacy white handkerchiefs, demure white heels, and some pearl dangles — and bangles — help complete the bride’s ensemble. Then, it’s time to head to the church’s Bride’s Room, where green-frosted sugar cookies, embossed with the couple’s initials, wait to assuage any munchies. The groom gets a little help from Mom straightening his tie…then goes to the garden to meet his bride for the “reveal.”
He presents his intended with a jeweled cross as a wedding gift, then helps her put it on and gets a thank-you kiss. Flanked by his men in blue ties, the groom (in white tie) then makes his way toward the church to prepare for the service; the maids are radiant in deep sea-blue gowns, holding bouquets of white, blue, and green. After the vows are said, the celebration begins, with a multi-tiered sculpted white cake, cheesecake, tiny cream puffs, and abundant candlelight reflecting off decorative prisms. Dancing under the stars, even the littlest guests enjoy light sticks and starlit fun — but all too soon, the bouquet is tossed, the garter dispatched, and the happy pair dash out under a shower of sparklers and into their new life together.
