Happy the bride the sun shines on — as you see in these images by Stephen DeVries of an outdoor October wedding in Lafayette, LA, a locale selected to play off the beauty of the bride’s hometown in the fall. But all eyes are really on the bride, resplendent in lace from shoulder to hem; on her feet are “magic slippers” accented with pearl. More pearls weave into her sprightly bouquet as they trail down the ribbon like fairy dust. Follow the painted sign, “This Way to Wedding,” set casually into a bed of heather and ground cover…and see the pretty maids in aqua or silvered satin dresses with bows and ruffles. The bride has just a few moments to relax with her shoes off — but just a few; her groom awaits, in a blue suit that complements the maids’ gowns.
From the sweet “reveal,” a rendezvous in the woodlands, the couple proceeds down a grassy aisle strewn with flower petals, and exchanges vows beneath a chandelier suspended from the trees. After a few stolen moments before the water, they join the guests already gathering around multiple wedding cakes, set above beds of actual green moss! The spirit of the feast is fun: a needlepoint Auburn Tiger makes a cameo appearance, complete with pom-poms set against floral accents at the hall. After a toast and a dance or two with special people, it’s time to dig into that cake — and then to celebrate the happiness of the couple, sending them off under an arch of sparklers to their honeymoon and future together.
