Switzerland Oasis on Lake Lucerne by Anthony Paul Landscape Design

If you find yourself lucky enough to call a garden like this home, you’re not likely to want to leave; not when the combination of placid lake water, clear blue skies, and lush green spaces wrap around you, as they do in this Switzerland garden by Anthony Paul Landscape Design. Called by the designer “one of the most dramatic and spectacular lakes in Europe,” Lake Lucerne is the site of this wonderful meld between manmade garden and natural countryside. What the designer further calls “an unpretentious and simple design” is dominated by soothing greens. Ornamental grasses, reeds, and lily pads are at home here, and ferns cast their delicate tracery along the water’s edge, with deliberate small gaps between stones to allow alpines to grow.

Other hues enter via native wildflowers in glorious masses of gold, purple, and red; follow stepping stones across ponds or stroll a wood deck, and you ramble peacefully through a secluded spot that virtually guarantees relaxation. Sit back and watch the sun rise or set over water from your comfy lounge chair, or pick up your binoculars for a glimpse of water birds. As Paul further explains, “…water is the key element. By incorporating ponds, streams or rills into these gardens, I link them back to the lake, which acts almost like a large painted theatrical background.” That background is gorgeous from the deck, beneath the shade of an umbrella or the steps leading down from the shore, in this haven of unequalled serenity in the heart of Switzerland by landscaper Anthony Paul.
