A wedding at twilight, in the balmy breezes of southern California: sounds romantic, doesn’t it? And it is, supremely so, in these images of nuptials between a Navy man and his lady, presented by Brett Hickman Photography. The theme of the day is clearly blue and white, with a generous touch of the nautical: the bride wears high strappy deep sea-blue colored shoes, with the bridesmaids and mothers dressed in the same color and a paler shade as part of the maids’ bouquets. A sleeveless confection of lace, the bride’s gown is figure-flattering and nicely clingy, complete with a demure bow in the back; she wears a wisp of a veil once she’s had her chance to surprise the groom in their sweet “reveal.” For the groom’s part, he’s looking ship-shape in blue suiting, lily-of-the-valley on his lapel…and deck shoes!
After a sunset ceremony beneath lighted palm trees, the groom carries his new bride down the aisle, and all adjourn to where they can write messages on quilt squares for the newlyweds and pose for goofy fun photos with sailor and pirate “props.” The cake is decked out in blue and white flowers, nautical “rope” trim, and fruit and floral accents. One treat table is positioned beneath a plaque with the legend, “love is sweet” and a motif of anchors! Music and dancing ensue, with a touch of sentiment in father/daughter and mother/son dances; then, out come the light sticks and the great dance moves. Finally, at the end of the evening, the couple steals away under a shower of sparklers into their new life together — a fitting end to a fairytale day, as brought to us by Brett Hickman.
