The La Valencia hotel and resort in La Jolla, CA, is known as the “Pink Lady” — for obvious reasons, as you’ll see in these wedding photos from Jackie Wonders. Against a backdrop of spotless peachy-pink stone, this bride and groom take their cue from the site from the very beginning: invitations are sleek black on pure white, trimmed with narrow black ribbon. We see the dress with an overhead light above it, hanging ready in a pink-toned corridor. We see bridesmaids’ dresses in a row — in variegated designs. Some are straight black; some are pale peach; some have a print of both colors. Simple black heels with a pouf of chiffon on each become the unifying element of the ladies’ attire. Men are in simple black tie — always a classic look no matter what the season.
Bouquets, too, carry on the pink theme with palest pink roses interspersed among the white and cream. A garden ceremony is accented by bright white chairs and beribboned and bejeweled tree branches; the reception hall is resplendent with more pink-toned miniature “tree” centerpieces, draped in jewels, and tiny bouquets of more roses among gold-trimmed candleholders and glassware, while guest “placecards” are held by rounds of pink with cream or silver trim. Even the cakes carry out the well-planned (and delicious) combination: white and pale pink frosted bridal cake and cupcakes, and a whip of creamy frosting on devil’s food groom’s cupcakes. Posed before the hotel’s front sign, the bridal party has a few giggles for the camera…and the celebration is a success, crowned in the trademark colors of a landmark.
